(MY BAD. Forgot to post one yesterday and I won’t be able to until after this weekend because I will be away from the laptop!)
Today’s topic: the UC Regents commotion and the Occupy Movement.
Before I begin, I want to let it known that I do not know much about these topics. I know, it’s kind of sad considering I go to a University where our entire system is involved in these movements.. so I apologize if I say things offensive or are wrong.
That being said, yesterday (Thursday) the UCRegents meeting was held at our school. That means there were probably 100 police on campus, backup police ready, news reporters, extra security, and definitely some politically active students. I went with a friend to observe the protest for about an hour by standing as one of the many spectators while the main group of leaders lead “cheers”(?) and even held up a fake dummy in a suit with a picture of (I’m guessing the President in charge?) and danced him around. I’m not sure of my opinion on all of the hubbub quite yet, but I do know I’m not too happy about tuition raising. It changes a lot of things in students lives if tuition raises.. like our future career in our academia, our housing situations, our financial aid (being taken away).. it obviously is no bueno for the prices to raise but I also don’t think being violent (from both the students side and the police side) is ever an answer. & that was my prayer.
Mm.. again, I don’t know much about this. I think I mainly just wanted to touch on it seeing as how it was the most exciting thing that happened yesterday. Oh that, and I also held a walking stick as it crawled over me.. (entomology class). Almost held a tarantula but.. I didn’t. Cool story.
